BHC's COVID Prevention

February 2, 2022

Hi Members,

I get asked about how the business is doing quite often, so I thought I’d give you all an update.  For several months now the Club’s business has been steady and solid, unlike the more unpredictable shaky up and down times during our long COVID experience. I feel that people can tell how seriously we respect their safety, and that has helped stabilize the business.

We did have a few staff members catch COVID over the holidays, and we feel we correctly traced the origin of each of the cases to be outside the Club. With that said, I don’t believe that any of the staff have contracted COVID at the club in the almost 2 years that have passed since this whole thing started. I’ll also say, I have not heard of any members feeling as though they contracted COVID here either.

I believe one of the main reasons for our success in COVID prevention has been our air systems throughout the Club. In our main gym, we continually replace the air with 100% outside air and force the new air into other parts of the facility. This combined with having 14-foot ceilings, requiring spacing between members and enforcing 100% masking and vaccinations has helped accomplish our safety goal of providing the best anti-COVID gym environment available in the area.

In other news, we are very excited about the array of new in-studio classes we are introducing this month. We are also making some of the classes that were only available online available both online and in-studio.

We have completed the expansion of the 2nd floor Training Studio. This means we will no longer need to close Studio X on the main floor for Small Group Training sessions since those sessions will now always be held in the Training Studio. We know how much members enjoy using Studio X, so we’re happy that it will now always be available. The Training Studio is fully equipped to give focused and private personal training sessions for those clients that make use of this popular offering at BHC.

In the smaller room that is to the right of Studio X in the main gym area, we are planning on installing deadlift and Olympic lifting platforms. This plan will provide several benefits to the Club. One of those is to have a place for people to hit the floor with plated barbells and not be as concerned with bothering others with how much noise that makes. The platforms we plan to install will be built with rubber and padded landing areas for the weights to reduce this sound. We will also add sound deadening material to the room to reduce the echo that is currently present in that room.

Another benefit to this is that Olympic lifting is a weightlifting style popular with lots of folks, and having an Olympic platform will attract those that want to work out this way.

We have many more improvements in the works that I look forward to telling you all about later.

Thank you for being a member of Ballard Health Club, and we’re excited and honored to be your place to get yourself in shape for a great Spring and Summer coming up.

Sincerely,

Pat Gilbrough
