How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club? I joined BHC in June of 2017, about 26 years after relocating my office to The Ballard Building (do you remember the Backstage? I do.)
What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym? Cardio warm-up on the AMT strider (30 min) or Stairmaster (100 floors).
Why do you work out? As a result of recent family health issues, I've read a lot about reducing cognitive impairment via heart health. Sitting behind a desk for over 35 years hasn't helped mine (cardiac or cognitive); starting my day at BHC does.
What do you do to work out? Trainer Spencer writes it down and shows me how to do an orderly, focused workout. About every six weeks, we check in and he revises my checklist. No excuses.
What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals? Well, Spencer, as a trainer, of course, and Bayeshan & Lara in Studio Y, but the diverse crowd at BHC, as well.
Why do you choose to work out at BHC? It's local, friendly, clean and affordable. And, if I've forgotten my earbuds, the background music is inspiring.
Anything else you'd like to add? It's a fun surprise to see members outside of the gym environment - last summer, I ran into Stephen Fisher (Oct 2018 featured member) at a Loyal Heights block party, and it was nice to have an extended conversation without either of us panting for breath.
