Member Spotlight - Pat Fiske
How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club?
Approximately 7 years.
What is your favorite piece of equipment or exercise to do in the gym?
I like the cardio equipment - stationary bike and rowing machine. Also, an exercise one of the trainers showed me that involved stepping with one leg while lifting a weight with the opposite arm.
Why do you work out?
In a (possibly vain) attempt to slow the effects of aging.
What do you do to work out?
I warm up for 10 minutes on the bike and then alternate between arm strength and leg strength machines for about a half hour. Finally, I end with 5 minutes or so on the rowing machine. (Not a very intense workout as you can see.)
What in the gym has worked for you in attaining your goals?
My “goals” are not particularly lofty. I believe it is important to continue the workout routine as I’ve seen what can happen if one gives up regular exercise. The less you do, the less you can do, until finally one can do nothing at all.
Why do you choose to work out at BHC?
Once I found BHC, there was no reason to go elsewhere. It’s a friendly, upbeat atmosphere, even though I am an elder, I never feel out of place here among all the young and fit.
Anything else you'd like to add?
BHC is a friendly place, the staff is always welcoming and encouraging and this makes for a very positive start to the day.
