Summer's Final Act

09/05/2023

Dear Members,

When I was a schoolteacher, I wondered why other people lamented the end of summer.  They didn’t have to go back to work.  Why did they care?  Now I get it.  There are so many joys of summer that we all want to savor.  Long days, warm temperatures and sleepy afternoons, outdoor yoga, extended bikerides, picnics, travel adventures, gatherings at the beach, and so much more.  They make it difficult to let the summer go.

In August we had a particularly festive gathering of many of our BHC instructors at the Elks Club.  I think that I speak for everyone when I say how much instructors enjoyed meeting each other for the first time and/or reconnecting after the isolation of lockdown. It was a treat to see everyone in their civilian clothes.   I loved every minute of it.

On the other hand, autumn holds much promise.  We get busy indoors.  Members always spend more time at the gym when fall rolls around.  This year they can try Ginean’s new Circuit Strength and Conditioning class on Tuesdays at 10:00 am and on Saturdays at 8:00 am.  We also have Cycling classes from Courtney available on Saturdays in September.  Watch for more additions to the class schedule as the fall progresses.  If you are not ready to give up Yoga in the Park, you can keep coming to classes at Sunset Hill Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30-7:30 pm and on Saturdays at 10:00 am until September 16.

The fall also brings workshops and retreats.  MJ will offer her  Fall Renewal Restorative Yoga & Soundbath in Studio Y on Saturday, September 30 3:30-5:00 pm. If you haven’t yet experienced the acoustics in Studio Y in combination with MJ’s extraordinary singing bowls, you have to try it.  If you have attended once, you will surely want to come again.  Just relax and enjoy it.

Heather and Tracy’s popular Autumn Yoga Retreat at Suncadia will offer elegantly designed yoga sessions and delicious food in a beautiful venue.  These events that allow BHC members to gather and share powerful experiences are part of what makes BHC unlike any other health club.

While it is natural to feel a little blue as we notice how much shorter the days have become, we can take heart in the opportunity for renewal that fall offers us, especially at Ballard Health Club.

Best wishes,
