Update from Ballard Health Club - Expanded Open Gym Sessions

September 2, 2020

Dear Members,

We have greatly enjoyed seeing members come back to the Club since our Open Gym sessions began in early August.

Effective immediately, we are expanding the number of visits for Basic and PLUS memberships. A Basic membership will be allowed 2 Open Gym sessions a week and PLUS memberships will be allowed 3. We also have a new Unlimited Gym membership. Please see our membership page for more information at ballardhealthclub.com/pricing.

As of Monday, September 14th, Open Gym sessions will be expanded to an hour and 15 minutes (versus the current 50 minutes). During the week, sessions will start at 6am, 7:30am, 9am, 10:30am, 2pm, 3:30pm, 5pm and 6:30pm. Weekends will be 7:30am, 9am and 10:30am.  You will be able to arrive anytime during the first 30 minutes of the session and check-in at the front desk versus waiting in line outside.  We will add more Open Gym sessions as the demand dictates.

Participation in Open Gym sessions requires the member to sign up in advance. To sign up, visit the gym access page at ballardhealthclub.com/gym-access.

I genuinely believe we have established an exceptionally safe environment for an indoor fitness facility. Here are some of the reasons:

  • A massive amount of fresh, outside air is constantly pumped into the Club and exhausted back outside, not recirculated like most other gyms and commercial spaces.

  • We cap the maximum number of people allowed at the gym at any given time at a lower number than what is allowed by state guidelines. The purpose of this is to ensure the ability of our members to comfortably distance themselves while working out in the gym.

  • We require everyone, at all times, to wear a face covering over their mouth and nose. (WA state rules state people may remove masks during “excessive exercise” but we do not allow it)

  • We have installed over 16 hand sanitizing stations throughout the Club.

  • Our disinfecting procedures far exceed those used by typical health clubs. We ask members to wipe down equipment they have used and then our trained staff will also disinfect the specific equipment after every use with hospital-grade disinfectant wipes.

Membership billing continues to remain frozen for all members unless you have specifically asked to be unfrozen. An active, unfrozen membership is required to attend live streaming classes or to visit the gym.  If you have a frozen membership and book a live streaming class or a gym visit, we will unfreeze your membership at that point. You may also change your membership by using the Change of Membership Form on the membership page at ballardhealthclub.com/pricing.

Our membership software system periodically sends out an email to randomly selected members that have used the Club in some way (Open Gym session, live streaming class, ect.). The email requests feedback about the member’s experience.  Responses are posted on the bottom of the ballardhealthclub.com home page. These responses are a good way to see what members are saying about their experience with Ballard Health Club.

Lara Roche-Sudar, our stellar social media master, has recently posted a short Instagram video on what Studio X looks like after its recent transformation. Take a look at instagram.com/p/CEPuScCAQ3R. During COVID times, we will need as much space to spread out as possible and this change allows us to do just that. The wall between the studio and the rest of the gym has a roll up door that can be used to close off Studio X for classes in the future.

Thanks to Karen Gamble, our class director, for starting our live streaming classes in April soon after having to close the Club.  The virtual classes are now well established and number over 50 a week. We invite you to join in from the comfort of your home.  Learn about this great option at ballardhealthclub.com/group-exercise-classes.

Thank you to all of those members that have been navigating through these crazy times with us at Ballard Health Club. We certainly look forward to the day when we have our BHC family all back together again.

Stay Safe!
