Welcome the Season

September 29, 2021

Wow, we are rolling right through 2021. Happy Halloween everyone! We are officially in “eating season” after this month. I point this out not because it is a bad thing, it isn’t. Good food and good company are a part of a healthy lifestyle. I point it out because another key part of a healthy style is finding a balance between discipline and indulgence. As we embark on shorter days and holiday gatherings of sorts, it’s a good time to make a plan to take care of our personal health and physical well-being. You have to find the balance that makes sense for your fitness, dietary goals, and social needs.

If you want to maintain your current fitness level, make a commitment to keep your scheduled workouts and go to the gatherings after that 100th squat, not before. Sometimes showing up late means you were showing up for yourself first. You set the standards. Use our class schedule to create a plan to work out around your holiday schedule. That’s a nudge, we have both in-studio and virtual classes, check out our schedule here.

I know all about dietary needs, being gluten free, I’m used to the eye-rolls and the “just this one time” comments. This is another opportunity to show up for yourself, eat the foods that fuel you, body and soul, not the foods that harm you. You might take advantage of the nutritional coaching at BHC before you make your way to the soiree. Often, before I go to a holiday party, I’ll snack on a healthy food I may not get at the celebratory table. This is a good plan because a) you’ve already made sure you have put high quality food into your body and can eat the decadent and possibly less nutritious food offering knowing you’ve taken care of your personal needs, and b) you’re less likely to stand at the table stuffing your face because you’ve waited all day to eat food you didn’t have to prepare yourself. I know, I’ve done it. And regretted it. Trust me.

Eating season wouldn’t be such a thing if it weren’t for the holidays, Halloween thru Valentine’s Day. Holidays are social occasions and just like our food diet, it might be a good idea to be mindful of your social intake. If a gathering feels obligatory, it’s ok to skip it or just stay long enough to feel like you’ve said the proper hello and then leave. Surround yourself with the people that make you smile. We’re coming out of a pandemic, we’ve all been on a social cleanse of sorts. It’s good to get back out there but be aware of your comfort zone. We’re all navigating this.  Baby steps might be coming into one of our in-studio classes. We’ve added a yoga class with a new instructor Amanda, please welcome her in Studio Y, Mondays at 7pm. Also, Taylor has added a Zumba class on Wednesdays starting in the studio on October 6th at 7pm and virtually on October 13th. This class as well as her Friday class will become Hybrid, meaning both virtual and in-person. Aurora’s circuit classes on Monday and Wednesday at 5:30 are now also available virtually as well as in Studio Y. Jose is back teaching his Step Classes starting October 18th, we’ve been waiting for this Super Man for a while now. Welcome back Jose with us 9:30am Mondays and Wednesdays.

Celebrating all of it with you, I’ll see you in class!!!
