Update from Ballard Health Club - COVID-19 Temporary Closure

March 23, 2020 (COVID-19 Temporary Closure)

Dear Members,

It’s now been a week since we were required to temporarily close the Club and I wanted to update you on a few things.

At the time of the temporary closure, we stated we would freeze all membership billing. The actual freeze took 4 days for the software vendor to implement. As a result, some of you may have been billed during those days. Our plan now is to not begin the billing process until 4 days AFTER we reopen to make up for those 4 days. All annual memberships will be extended for the time the Club is temporarily closed once we know how long that will be.

I want to state my heartfelt thanks to those of you who individually have reached out to me and asked not to have your monthly membership billing suspended in order to help the Club and our staff. You are what makes our community at BHC so special! With the layoff of our staff and class instructors – it has been an extreme blow financially to our BHC family. We are doing our best to weather the storm and keep our family together in order to serve our members when we re-open.

If you are able to support the Club during the closure period and have a monthly membership, please respond to this email with the request to unfreeze your membership. For others who wish to donate to the Club, there is a button on the BHC website home page enabling you to do so. Funds will be used to assist in supporting the Club operations until we are able to be at full speed once again.

On a brighter note, we have been making the most of the down time at the Club to get construction projects completed. These projects are tied to building code requirements. Terrible timing as far as paying for this work, but nice that we won’t have to interrupt use of the Club later. When we reopen, Studio Y and the Cycling Studio will have new air circulation systems. Other projects include freshening the Club with new paint, cleaning, and miscellaneous repairs. We are making use of our own staff wherever possible with these projects for demolition work, painting, cleaning, etc.

Something else to report is that several class instructors have been creating online classes. We are beginning to publish these on the BHC website. To locate the virtual classes, choose “CLASSES” and then “Virtual Classes” from the home page of the BHC website.

I know these are difficult times. I keep focusing on how special our Club is and know, in the not too distant future, we will all be together again.

Thank you and stay healthy!
