Happy New Year! and BHC Gym Etiquette

January 2025

Dear Members,

Happy New Year!

January, as you know, is a busy time at health clubs. Everyone is determined to get started on their new year’s fitness goals. To help make all of our members’ visits a positive one, I thought I would review BHC’s gym etiquette.

Our primary job as staff at BHC is to provide the best environment we can for our members’ fitness efforts. At times, this will include reminding individuals of their actions when they affect the enjoyment of the gym by others. Our members expect this higher level of service at BHC. One thing I have learned as General Manager of the Club for 11 years, is that 99% percent of our members that may be bothering others by something they are doing in the gym, did not realize that was happening and appreciate being informed.

One of the trickiest items for staff to address is the the use of phones when members occupy equipment at the Club. What we settled on is “Limit rest time between sets to no more than 90 seconds on non-cardio machines or benches”. In other words, it’s just fine to use a phone to check a text or your workout plan, but not to get in a long back and forth text conversation with your Aunt Sally about her new car.

January is always an exciting time at Ballard Health Club and I look forward to being involved in helping our members achieve what they plan for the new year!

Sincerely,
