Member Spotlight: Colleen Guillory

How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club? 

I joined BHC in July last year!

Why do you work out? 

I work out to get stronger and as an investment in my long-term wellbeing. I have so many activities on my to-do list! I don’t want my body's capability to be my limiting factor.

When you are at the gym, what do you do to work out?

I LOVE the incredible classes! Circuit Training, Barre, and Cycling for Beginners have my whole heart.

What at BHC has worked for you for attaining your goals?

I’m a person who really thrives in routine and the class schedule makes it so easy to show up day after day.

Why do you choose to work out at BHC?

I chose BHC because I’ve tried and failed to challenge myself physically at home. The collective effervescence of the classes at BHC is what really keeps me coming back. Everyone in the classes is so supportive of one another and so very kind. There’s so much great energy here!

What is your favorite piece of equipment, exercise, or class to do in the gym or at home?
It’s so hard to pick just one favorite class! I’d have to say I really love circuit training, though. There’s something deeply gratifying about being able to track your progress based on the weight of heavy things you can lift above your head.

Anything else you’d like to add?
I truly believe the magic at BHC lies in its instructors. Both instructors I’ve had-Anne-Marie and Ivana- strike a perfect balance between maintaining challenge and accessibility while managing to be encouraging but not commanding. Anne Marie reminds us on Friday mornings that Studio Y is a safe place to fail, to discover our limits, and to surprise ourselves with our strength. And Ivana puts such care into curating her circuit training and barre workouts (and her rad playlists!). Her attention to detail and insightful form corrections speak to her depth of knowledge and her passion for helping people. I wouldn’t be as dogged in my attendance if not for them.
