Member Spotlight: Najika Yoo
How long have you been a member at Ballard Health Club?
I joined first in Summer 2019 and then came back again in 2022! So probably at least 3 years.
Why do you work out?
I think my initial motivation was to not be useless in a hypothetical survival situation, but throughout my journey, I've noticed much more practical things. It's helped me with my energy levels, reduced my chronic pain, and improved my posture. Most importantly, I now believe in myself much more because I've accomplished so many things I never thought I could do before I started working out consistently.
When you are at the gym, what do you do to work out?
I lift weights 4 days a week and do cardio the other 2 days. My cardio options are pretty limited due to my physical limitations, so shout out to the spin bikes and row machines!
What at BHC has worked for you for attaining your goals?
I love asking other female members for tips if I see them doing something I would like to accomplish, too! There are so many strong women and femmes at BHC, and it's really inspiring. One member, Sam, helped me progress to my first push-up because she gave me the great tip of putting a sandbag on my back while doing knee push-ups. I'm so grateful to her!
Why do you choose to work out at BHC?
The community is what keeps me here. I've made so many wonderful friends, like Hiromi, Shannon, Kyu, and Mimi; it really makes me feel like Ballard is my home. I love getting to see the same folks every morning. We lift each other up. Zorian and Steven are two members who really foster that friendly energy. I'm very thankful to them.
What is your favorite piece of equipment, exercise, or class to do in the gym or at home?
My favorite piece of equipment is the white board with the monthly question on it. And also the new CoachBike. The programs on it have really improved my stamina!
