How to Survive the Holidays
November 21, 2019
We are in it and have one more month before 2020. Wait, what? That went fast. It really did and life moves quickly, so we have to figure out how to make the most of it all now. Oddly to make the most of what moves quickly is to slow down and keep your bearings. For many of us, we are cramming in family time, friend time, holiday parties, shopping along with our work life and if you’re not doing that, well you’re navigating around a lot of people who are, which I’m sure is just as exhausting. It’s time to take a breath and remember the importance of our health to our happiness.
It’s really easy to let your fitness goals slide because of the busy season but it doesn’t have to be hard to keep yourself motivated. There’s a balance in there and it’s between letting yourself stay a little late to enjoy some cheer and remaining committed to your best self, the healthy one.
So how do you survive the holidays? You enjoy them, whatever it is you enjoy about the season, indulge a little, slow down and take in the joy. You can miss one workout okay…but two? I don’t recommend it. Stay on track with your routine so you don’t lose it. Do a pre-workout with a friend before a gathering. Bring your friends to a Zumba class and make that the party! Walk the stairs at work the day you miss your workout. Keep healthy food in your fridge to offset the party snacks. Plan ahead, pack your gear before you go to bed. Sign up for a training or a class ahead of time to secure your spot. Hold yourself accountable, and if that isn’t enough, ask a friend, instructor or trainer to help.
That’s it, you’ve got this. So, let’s get out there and celebrate all the good tidings that come with taking care of our best selves in the spirit of the holidays. I’ll see you in class!
